Adoption of a child presents unique circumstances, challenges and rewards for new and experienced parents alike. At Northeast Pediatrics, we offer pre-adoption consultation for parents who are considering adoption in general, or adopting a specific child, especially a child who may be adopted from another country. We are not affiliated with any specific adoption agency, and can provide advice that is independent, personal and confidential.
We assist prospective parents in evaluating information they may have been given about a child they are adopting, including birth and medical history, information regarding growth and development, and immunization records. We help prospective adoptive parents in deciding what to bring and what to prepare for if traveling overseas to adopt a child, including prescription medications and medical supplies.
We also provide a comprehensive initial evaluation of every newly adopted child, including screening for infectious diseases, medical conditions and developmental disabilities, and we re-evaluate each newly adopted child frequently for unanticipated medical or developmental problems that may not be apparent initially.
